The town's tourist industry mainly caters for holiday-makers and day-trippers from the Midlands. Skegness has been named "the Blackpool of the East Coast" or "Nottingham by the Sea". It has a famous mascot, the Jolly Fisherman (designed by John Hassall in 1908 for the Great Northern Railway). The town is also known as Skeg, Skeggy or Skegvegas. Further North up the coast are the other holiday resorts of Ingoldmells, Chapel St Leonards, Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe.
