SKEGNESS CARNIVAL 2010

8th to 14th August

This year's Skegness Carnival theme:

MARDI GRAS

Skegness Carnival week 2010 was a great success.

All events well attended both by locals and by visitors from as far afield as Essex.

The Carnival Committee’s Graham Dovey writes: “During the week we talk to a number of people at our events to find out how far they have travelled and where they are from in order to assess how successful we are.

“We have had a number of visitors from our usual inland towns who regard Skegness as ‘their’ holiday town – Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Sheffield and areas close by in Lincolnshire.

“We have also had visitors from Kent, Essex, North Yorkshire, Birmingham and other Midlands towns we would not normally associate with a holiday in Skegness. We believe this shows how popular Skegness is with families and especially during Carnival Week.

“The weather started the week with glorious sunshine, which continued up to the Thursday when we had to move an event from Tower Gardens into the Arts Room at the Embassy Theatre at very short notice due to heavy rain. A big thank you to Steve Rushforth and the staff for allowing us to use the room.

“Despite the heavy rain on Friday morning when the only visitors seemed to be the ducks, it eventually stopped raining and the pet show run by Digby’s pet and Aquatic Store took place.

“We now look forward to our next event which will be the Victorian Style market in December and the Santa’s Grotto in the Hildreds Centre, which will start at the Christmas switch-on.

“A big thank you to all our helpers and the Charities who supported our gala days by attending and filling the stalls; we hope you raised lots of money for your individual organisations. The money raised by the Carnival Committee this week will be used to pay for next year’s Carnival Week.”
