March 2017 Events:

Creeds Cross : The Celtic Journey

A stunningly exciting evening, capturing the origins of The Celtic Journey as it spread across the world.

From Galway to Nashville and to many far flung destinations and diverse musical genre – Bluegrass, Country, Americana, Folk and Rock – can all be traced back to the early influence of the Irish and the Scots.

Now the story ‘live on stage’ as some of the country’s finest musicians take you on a thrilling ride through this great story, with a refreshingly modern, toe-tapping approach that will leave you breathless.

“A spectacular show of electrifying music and tribal rhythms, skilfully performed by extremely talented musicians and dancers” – Clare Winter, Trestle Arts Base, St Albans.

“Think Galway Girl meets Mumford & Sons, and you still can’t quite put your finger on why it sounds so good, or so different to anything you’ve heard before” – Deanne Crocker, Engage Magazine.

Whistle Down The Wind - 9th, 10th, 11th March

Whistle Down The Wind follows the fortunes of a fugitive caught between the prejudice of adults and the innocence of the young.

Whistle Down The Wind revolves around the time and place where the word teenager was invented. Swallow, a 15 year old girl growing up in America’s deep South in the fifties, discovers a mysterious man hiding out in a barn. When she asks who he is and the first words he utters are “Jesus Christ”, it’s as if all her prayers have been answered. Swallow and the town’s other children vow to protect the stranger from the world that waits outside – the townspeople who are determined to catch a fugitive hiding in their midst. As fantasy and reality collide, Swallow is torn between the two and begins to discover who she is and where she is going.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s emotive score combines hauntingly beautiful love songs and explosive rock music with lyrics by acclaimed rock’n’roll songwriter Jim Steinman. The score contrasts the relentless influence of the modern world with the traditional values of the old days – something which the community at Whistle Down The Wind yearns to return.

The King Is Back : Ben Portsmouth
- Friday 17th March
Ben, a multi-talented musician, singer and songwriter had Elvis’s DNA in his blood from an early age. His father was an avid Elvis fan and Ben grew up on a diet of Elvis songs. Having honed his musical talent Ben started his journey as an Elvis Tribute Artst in 2005.

He looked like Elvis, sang like Elvis and had an on stage charisma that had audiences believing at times they were watching the King himself.

In 2012, Ben made history when he won the Elvis Presley Enterprises “Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist” contest in Memphis, crowning Ben as the “Worldwide Ultimate Tribute Artist”, the only artist from outside the USA to ever win this prestigious title.

Internationally renowned as one, if not the best Elvis tribute in the world today, Ben Portsmouth will bring his unique style, charisma and 10 piece band to show audiences why he is regarded as the best in the business.

The Manfreds : Makin' Tracks Tour

The '60s group Manfred Mann is now considered, more than ever, one of the finest and most respected bands from that era. Their numerous hits were R&B based with an undercurrent of jazz – a very unusual but winning combination of playing style and substance. As a result, their records have a timeless quality and, some 55 years on, The Manfreds, with original front man, Paul Jones, will be performing many of their hits, including 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy', one of the most popular and instantly recognisable songs of the '60's, and still the biggest audience pleaser at their concerts, along with a mix of Jazz and Blues covers from their new album 'Makin' Tracks' Paul Jones, with his unique harmonica sound, will be joined by Mike Hugg on keyboards, Tom McGuinness on guitar, Rob Townsend on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass, and Simon Currie on saxophone/flute.

Buddy Holly & The Cricketers
Fri 24 March 7:30pm

For a quarter of a century, this breathtaking show has rock ’n’ rolled audiences across the globe from Cardiff to California, Barking to Bangkok and Swindon to Sweden and is guaranteed to have everyone singing along to the music and dancing in the aisles.

It stars some of the finest actor-musicians in the UK whose combined West End credits include Buddy, Lennon, Forbidden Planet and Jailhouse Rock and was endorsed as Britain’s most popular Buddy Holly act when the boys guested on BBC One’s Saturday night live programme, “The One and Only”, hosted by Graham Norton.

The show rarely pauses for breath and is, quite simply, the most compelling concert of its kind. The hits just keep on coming – That’ll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Heartbeat, It Doesn’t Matter Anymore, Raining In My Heart, Oh Boy! – and much, much more.

Whatever the season, whatever the excuse to party, make your Heartbeat a little faster with the show that has thousands of fans the world over saying: “I can’t believe it’s not Buddy!”
